Duties and Responsibilities:

Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading™ is an NSF-funded curriculum development and research program housed at the University of California, Berkeley. Faculty and staff from the Lawrence Hall of Science and Graduate School of Education are working to develop and test new models of science and literacy integration and to use these models to develop twelve science/literacy units across grades 1-5. The units offer a combined focus on inquiry-based science learning and content-rich literacy learning.   Following a national field trial of our first three units for second-third grades we are currently scaling up the program in order to develop six new units for grades 3-5. In addition, we have an ongoing research agenda designed to support our development work and make meaningful contributions to the literature on science and literacy education.

The project is in search of three to five Assistant and/or Associate Specialists and one Specialist to contribute to the development of the Seeds/Roots curriculum and assessment materials and the research and evaluation studies, with a focus on assessment for the Specialist position.

The Assistant and Associate Specialists will bring specialized knowledge and 1-3 years related experience at the Assistant Level and 3-5 years related experience at the Associate level to the development of the program's curriculum materials and its research and evaluation studies.

The Specialist will bring deep expertise to the development of the program's assessment system and assessment instruments for use with elementary students. Write a variety of project materials, including those that communicate the use of the assessment system to teachers and students, as well as technical reports on the development and effectiveness of assessment instruments.
